Default Would love some snacks suggestions

I would be very interested in hearing your suggestions about delicious snacks. Usually when we have guests over, we want to offer some snacks after the dinner and dessert. Crisps is the absolute simplest and you can just buy it in the store, but it's really not healthy and it's well, not exactly a culinary experience, nor does it make your stomach feel all that good after a few.

So, does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking in the line of hors d'oeuvres, but simpler things would be interesting too. It doesn't have to be extremely healthy, but not in the level of crisps please.

Well I have always liked a good vegetable and cheese tray. Basically an assortment of vegetables cut down into manageable pieces (bite size) with something to dip them in,if desired, (some type of dressing or cheese ). And then cheese cut up into manageable pieces, if possible depending on the type of cheese, but generally cheese you can cut makes a lot less mess xD. I personally love blue cheese, brie, and white sharp cheddar. (/drool) Also its not all that bad for you.

Thanks for your suggestions! :) Cheese, and also I'd like to add biscuits, are very nice. Dry fruit, I haven't even thought about - good idea!

Are there any more suggestions? I'm serious about food (and my guests), so all suggestions are very helpful for me, if you know what I mean ;). Anything that involves meat for instance?

If you're looking for healthier cracker like snacks, you might want to hit up your nearest asian grocery, as they have essentially what you're looking for. Wasabi peas are like crack, sesame wafers, crackers that are baked rather than deep fried. They also have slightly sweet snacks, as in Asia it is very common to serve an after dinner "dessert" that is not overwhelmingly sweet or fatty. Oh, you can also pick up edamame there.

I'm partial to the wasabi peas and the asian trail mix with those in it.

For snacks with meat, I'd just serve small slices of prosciutto with a cheese platter. Generally you don't want to serve a meat for dessert, it should be light, slightly sweet/sour, refreshing more than anything.

However, if you really want to serve heavier snacks, the term you're looking for is "finger food". http://www.food.com/recipes/finger-food-appetizers

Thank you tentonwire for the helpful reply. I was thinking snacks served a few hours after the dessert, but wasabi peas, sesami wafers or prosciutto with cheese platter sound delicious.

Aha, "finger food", I had a look at the link and while most of it seems too heavy after having had both dinner and dessert, there were a few interesting recipes like the seafood stuffed mushrooms. Then there's tapas, which is pretty much snacks but from Spain - in Sweden when you buy it you get like chili pickled garlic, pickled bell-peppers with cheese, spicy sausages, olives etc.
