i use traversity free edition at home for streaming as well. If it gets choppy often it could be because you have transcoding enabled...
I also sometimes like to just use windows media player to stream to my ps3 (only have to enable one checkbox).
Another program people love to use is ps3 media server, it is a program dedicated to streaming to your ps3. I believe it has expanded though into streaming for other consoles and hardware.

I have used all of the above and have had the greatest success with traversity because of the way i sort my library on my computer. If you are looking for an alternative i would definatly try out ps3 media server :)

Thank you so you are saying I don't need to have transcoding enabled? It's not terrible but it jitters probably 2% of the movie and every once in a blue moon freezes for a min maybe

I highly recommend 'PS3 Media Server' as well. It plays everything I throw at it without problems (as long as english is the first language selection, sigh).

you should disable transcoding if possible, this will speed up the streaming process as a whole. (but this also means you will only be able to stream formats supported by the ps3) The 2 benefits of ENABLING transcoding are that you can play formats that are not normally supported by the ps3 and/or change the resolution of the stream. The disadvantage of this is that is takes time for the cpu to convert the video therefore slowing down your stream.

I recommend turning off transcoding if it is currently enabled. I have also had some issues where the video froze or was choppy, what i normally do is just pause the movie for a few minutes and go do something else (grab some popcorn) and let the video buffer for a bit. This usually fixes any problems i have.

Ya what I do is just back up a hair and it straightens rite up. Do you guys think the reason is my torrent client running? I normally dl at 5mb/s and up @ 3.5-4.1 so what I've been doing is capping both at 2 mb while I watch movie. I have both programs installed right now and I am testing them out.

that could be the reason, instead of capping your speeds what you should do is go into your QOS on your router and try to prioritize the UDP streaming to your ps3 over the downloading & uploading of torrents. If you dont know how to do that then closing your client or limiting your download & upload speeds for your torrents (or pausing them) would be a good idea as well :)

Now I can't get either to work. Is that because I have both installed? This is driving me nutz I like them both but, I get choppy bits with both and I think I prefer Tversity lay out.
