I've recently received one of the new Cr48 units that Google is handing out as a part of their pilot program for their new OS. So far I've not had too much trouble with the laptop, I carry it around with me when I go to class, and Google Docs works fine for taking notes, etc. Otherwise I'd just be checking my email or my favorite forum
Still, it is not without limitations. Because the OS is pretty much just the Chrome browser, I'm unable to install anything, or download anything in general. It lacks a good service for playing your own music, a file server, ways to easily access storage devices (despite having both a SD slot and a USB), and one thing that I really need for school, easy access to SSH.
Still, it's quite good at running webapps. It seems to have most of the enhancements of Google Gears, Chrome, etc. built in. Despite having a tiny little Atom processor it's able to handle voice and video calls very responsively (over Gmail), and I haven't had any sign of unresponsiveness when I'm accessing any site run by Google.
What do you guys think of the Chrome OS and the future of the operating system?
Feel free to ask me any questions.
