Default Why does cpu usuage increase when setting display to 1080p/24hz

I wanted to see if videos looked better seeing as now I have a tv that is capable of playing 1080p/24, but noticed something odd. I have an ati 4550 video card and set the display to 1080p/24. I use ffdshow to decode, and usually it uses both cores on my cpu equally. Now it looks like one of the cores gets maxed out and cpu usuage goes up. Is this normal, and would maybe a newer version of ffdshow fix this? At a resolution of 1080p/60hz the cpu usuage is much more evenly distrubuted.

Perhaps try the latest version of CoreAVC as it offloads the video work to the graphics card.

Try updating your video card driver.

They are right, need to move the workload onto the GPU
