what operation sistem do you use and why?
I use Win XP because I have to use some special apps that are designed for XP. I also tried Linux Ubutnu but I didnt like it.
ubuntu for me lots quicker than windows and dont seem to get many errors
right now i'm running XP. loads of support and software and the min. system requirements are pretty low, so it's perfect for my lap top.
but the buzz (and respect) goes for windows 7. it's better than mac and like every windows before, has loads of nerds who work to make it faster/better. plus, windows's have wider software selection. if i get a better workstation, i'll be upgrading to win7, that's for sure.
Ubuntu for programming/study because I don't have any applications or games there and Windows 7 for everything else.
Linux for me for several reasons:
- Windows is not backward compatible (M$ assumes all people are rich to have high-end hardware).
- Since there are some people using XP instead of 7, I'd say it cannot properly end process (very dumb I say).
- I don't want to waste too much time on licenses.
- I don't like the need to install anti-virus just to protect for exploits. A smart kernel should handle that properly.
- It is almost, if not impossible, tiring to keep your third-party apps updated. This is the main advantage of Linux over other OS.
- As I have taken a peek on Windows 7, I didn't like the exaggerated GUI that simply wasted resources and produced even more unnecessary heat.
On my desktop I have Windows 7, which I use for everyday use. Every now and then I like to play some games as well so having Windows is kind of a must. Besides that I am quite happy with it. Everything works out of the box - no configurations or dependency installations needed. There are loads of programs to provide functionality that isn't provided by default. And generally everything runs smoothly and it just provides a nice user experience.
However, I also have a virtual installation of Ubuntu Linux, which I mostly use for programming or screwing around in a safe sandbox environment. I realize Windows is perhaps not the safest or most secure OS, but in the decade that I've been using it I've never experienced security issues. If you use a free virus scanner and common sense, I don't think security should be an issue.
Windows 7 for compatibility and all-round usage. Less expensive than a macbook pro.
