I like to use kaspersky internet security. It does real time scans, and besides being and anti virus protect your browsing, it even blocks ads on the web.And it's light on resources.

    Avast
Microsoft Security Essentials - scheduled scan (everything else is disabled)
Comodo Firewall (real time protection disabled)
    Comodo Free DNS
    Malwarebytes

I'm kinda big on security but refuse to pay!

I don't use a virus scanner or firewall. I use the computer in such a way so as not to get viruses.

I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials are looking to get a virus scanner. Malwarebytes is great for spyware/virus removal also.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Online Armor Firewall. They're both free and scored high on a test done in 2009.

Even iptables? I use ufw for editing firewall rules in linux. Directly editing iptables seem confusing to me.

For Windows, I only use Panda Cloud and Immunet for anti-virus. They are cloud-based so you don't have to download the slow updates pushed by your typical anti-virus. They are very lightweight, consumes a few MB in memory. Free versions are available. People should start to realize that we are embracing cloud computing. And these products are one of the best in this category.
I just don't know if there is a firewall as lightweight as they are.
