I've done an upgrade on one Ubuntu machine with nVidia proprietary drivers and it worked fine. I have Lubuntu on my netbook and no serious problem.

I haven't done my upgrade yet, but I'll make sure I find time to do it this weekend. I've been following the development loosely, and 10.10 looks like it will be another good step in the right direction from 10.04. Probably not a quantum leap like 10.04 was, but still a good step.

The only thing, I'm not a fan of in ubuntu, is the new theme. It's an interesting idea, but the execution and consistency isn't quite there. Luckily thats easily fixed with the community themes package :D

I am running it on 2 computers.

Desktop - intel/nvidia system is working fine.
Laptop - mostly ok, apart from 2 really annoying issues. Wifi-N is broken on intel agn wireless cards, and suspend sometimes locks up the system and then have to power cycle to recover. If you are going to install it on a laptop then perhaps boot the live cd to test out first.

Interesting that you say that, 10.04 was a LTS release, so the main focus there was stability and apart form the theme not a lot changed from 9.10.

Agreed, There is not a whole lot new in 10.10, but this is probably since there havent been any big updates of the underlying software. There lots of little improvements added all over however!

10.10 was originally planned to have the new gnome shell, which would have been a real quantum leap, but this has been delayed until next release now. It is in the repos however so you can install it and have a play! Not 100% finished but pretty nice interface!

I updated yesterday and while the OS itself is a nice improvement. I've got some serious issues with 3 packages. They refuse to install properly, because the deb package apparently contains no install script and I can't uninstall them because aptitude wants them to be installed properly first.

Apart from those problems, which should be solved soon (the bugs are already reported, just a matter of time) the OS is the solid improvement I expected.

I was thinking more of the projects direction than anything. Canonical started pushing a more social direction for the OS with the messaging menu and gwibber integration. The panel updates and killing the notification area was another step towards more integration. The inclusion of the Ubuntu One music store was another step, to make desktop linux more legitimate.

So yes, while not a huge amount changed in features, I think Canonicals goals and aims for the project changed a lot putting Ubuntu in a new better direction.

Agreed, that does look good. We're really just waiting on the gnome team to finish gnome3 in time for 11.04 now.

Yeh kinda of forget about the panel notifications at times, since I dont always use Ubuntu's apps of choice. Although Rhythmbox integration is nice new feature in maverick and I do have Thunderbird running of libnotify also now.

Ubuntu music store = big Fail Here. Only content is from a few obscure independent labels. Although I suspect that is not entirely Canonical's fault.
