I always liked desktops, because they were customizable, and it is possible to do self-maintenance. With laptops, if you have a hardware failure, you're screwed.
I also hate netbooks, keyboard is way too small for comfort. I think that once I go off to college, though, I'll invest in a laptop, just for mobility.
