And by "open-endedness" I didn't mean the source code itself is free or anything, I meant to say that you can fiddle around with the core operations of the OS by messing around in the registry and editing DLLs and CFG files, something which Mac doesn't allow.
And then there's the shear popularity of the Windows OS. You go on the net, you download any random app from anywhere, rest assured it'll be an exe that'll run without issues. With a Mac you'd have to look for a Mac version which, for many apps created by smaller companies, does not exist.
Oh, and did I mention the lack of compatibility with games? It's slowly increasing, but again, not every game has a Mac version.
