    Default i7 processors worth?

Is it true than i7 processors can do any process. You name it and it can do it or rather run it in high resolution?
    Wouldn't adobe premier pro lag?
Also can it play all the latest games? Is it worth buying it?
Need to badly upgrade my PC Configuration.

"Lagging" of applications depends on many subsystems of a pc, if for example your disk is slow then you will have to wait for the disk to read and copy the application data in the RAM and so on... these are called bottlenecks
An i7 is cool as long as your applications use all the cores/threads and the rest of your system can support the demand... (no slow ram modules, no slow disk drives... RAID if possible or SSD) etc
If you use software that support many cores/threads then it will be great, if you use outdated software or software that doesn't support the i7 features then go for a cheaper CPU
Finally if you plan to keep this computer for a long time then buy a good cpu and a good motherboard (the rest like RAM/GPU/HDD are smaller upgrades)

Thanks for the info. I also wanted to know why is that the rates for i7 different like for 320 its $225 and for 550 its $590. Why is there so much rate difference. Is it dude to doubled no. of cores ?

    Yes it is worth!!

You could get i7 930 and than overclock it to about 4.0GHz and you will get ultimate results.

The difference in price is marketing.
Trust me i7 930 is the best high end price/performance ratio out there.

    P.S.

i7 320 and i7 550?? where did you see this??

i7 320? can you post a link? don't know this one (do you mean the i3?)

    prices depend on:
    speed
    # of cores
    # of threads per core
    Cache size
other features (instruction sets, tech used etc...)
    i hope this helps,
post links for the processors you want info on, I don't know any i7 320 model!

I'm certainly looking for an upgrade in my PC. Well about the overclock isn't it so that it might just burn the processor if we go to hard on it?

I would be shortlisting that one then.

    I don't remember where I read that. But I certainly know that i7 870 cost $570 and i7 930 cost $300.

    I have a i7 and i'm very satisfied.

But as stakis said... you have to upgrade the rest of the hardware to experiment the full blow of i7

I have a i7 920 2.66Mhz overclocked to 3.2Ghz (with Akasa Nero cooler..do no try to do that with the original cooler !!!)

6Gb RAM DDR3 Triple Channel Corsair 1.666Mhz (Full power of i7 depends on triple channel memory...and thus you have to buy a board with triple channel DDR3)

    Motherboard Asus PT6

2 HDs 7200 1Tb in RAID (the "perfomance" one..not mirror)

    ATI 4890 1Gb RAM Video

    Coolermaster HAF 932 Case

    Seventeam 800W
    Thnx for Rellik and Forbidden
    Two good souls !

there are motherboards but they are mostly for servers... the big and expensive ones, there should be for desktop pcs but I don't think it would be easy to find one (who buys another Core 2 Duo when he/she can buy a Quad or better...)

I have a 975 @ 4.2Ghz and its worth every penny, encoding times are down to a matter of minutes. But if your not going to be doing any cpu intensive tasks then your best of getting one of the cheaper models.
