Default What to do with an old tower?

I currently have an old tower running linux that is only being used for torrents, and is connected directly to the router via ethernet and that's all. My question is what can I do with it that won't cost anything and benefit my torrenting somehow?
I was thinking about something similar to a seed box, or maybe something I can do to the connection to boost it.

bananaman45 have a tutorial about setting up a home seedbox, but i believe it is Windows based:
    http://www.torrent-invites.com/tutor...ere-world.html

If you google "setup seedbox linux" you can find some tutorials on how to setup linux based ones, i don't know if i'm allowed to post the links here so i won't do.

What kind of hardware do you have in it? If you have a large HDD then ya I suppose it would be rather easy to use it just for torrents. Mabye even bring it over to a friends house and just use It for torrenting there. hehe thats what I do at my parents house and Im working on setting up remote desktop so that I can download torrents from my house and add them straight to it.. Windows is always easy to install to.

Well I loaded Linux on it because it had XP on it and would take all year to boot. It's like a 6 year old and I don't know any of the hardware specs except that it's a super old eMachine with a 250GB hd

That's a good idea but it's not really what i'm looking for. I want some sort of seedbox but i get confused with all the server lingo.

Basically to make it from running torrents to a full seedbox, if my mental definition of a seedbox is right, all it needs is ftp, to transfer the download out of the box, and either vnc or rdp forwarded to have access to add and control torrents remotely.

So install an ftp server, i use filezilla, and forward a port to it from the router(default ftp is 21). then you need the access portion. you can use either vnc or rdp, i tend to use vnc cause it's built into ubuntu which is my standard distro. all you need is to configure it with a password and forward port 5900 for it, which is the standard vnc port.

after all of that, you have a remote control, ftp-able, seedbox running minimum requirements. and it still works as a normal system should you need it for anything else.

feel free to pm me if you have any questions or need any help!

I like this idea, I'll definitely look into it. I have a Mac so I'll have to work around that. Is there any advantages/ disadvantages to just using a web gui? I'm still trying to fully wrap my head around this IP type lingo.

Make A NAS system of it, you can use tahd NAS to seed and download and store data.

You could actually use it as a boat anchor if you really wanted.

But in all seriousness, the previous posters do provide good ideas. It just depends on what you want to do.
