Default what converter or tool to use for different files

Hello to all members, vips and my dear moderators and admins of t-i.

I tried the search function, but decided to create a thread, since i have a couple of questions.

I have downloaded flac audio files, and want to convert them to mp3 format,
cd's that i want to rip the music, to mp3 as well,
and concerts in avi/xvid and format that i want to rip the songs and convert to mp3
and dvd concert i purchased from the store, and also need to rip the songs, to mp3

any tools you use for these?
btw, i'm using windows xp pro.. and i'm just a beginner regarding this.

i recently used dbpoweramp to convert the flac to mp3, and they work and sound ok.
    thanks for your insight.gl

To convert individual audio files use Lamexp it's good and very easy to use! MuldeR's Homepage

To rip music fro a cd use EAC http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

To demux and convert audio track from .avi file use Avidemux http://avidemux.org/

To rip audio from dvds you have to demux its audio with DGMPGDec
http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html and than convert it with lamexp

I really like MediaMonkey for the task of coverting audio files and burning them to disc, and also it's the best audio player. Superior tagging and sorting, and it plays anything. It's free for the basic player, the gold version is pay for, and has more features, but there are plenty of torrents with the Gold(pay) Version.

Google 'MediaMonkey', or look it up on a tracker.

For the other stuff, Super is the one most everyone uses. It will convert more files types to other file types than any program out there. And with just a drag and drop usually(most others are complicated and can't do nearly as many conversions as Super can). It's free.

Google 'Super', it's the first result because so many use it.

I would stick with dbpoweramp. It is one of the few converters that supports m4a conversion. I think it also uses all the cpus separately which makes it faster than others. I tried GoldWave (5.22) since I heard it was a good overall audio tool, but it doesn't seem to support m4a as it claims it does.
You can also check out Head-fi , the place I usually go to for audio related things. There are many threads recommending dbpoweramp.

Hello, I too use dbpoweramp for my converting. It's good and fast, I can keep lossless quality and convert to .m4a, or keep it nice and compressed with .mp3 at best quality. Since I also have a mac, I do like the apple lossless quality in itunes, and if not vlc or foobar will play them in widows also. I just like the infinite options in dbpoweramp, and also very easy to use.
    Good luck.

As the person above me says, I also use dbPowerAmp. If you're a newb, it's controls will allow you to choose what format/quality you'd like easily. For example, if you joined What via an invite, and not via the interview (where you would have to know about V0/V2 etc.), you wouldn't know anything about transcodes (unless you knew it previously).

Instead of you having to research the exact quality of V0, the slider will allow you to choose from the standardized formats and other names, like V0/V2 as described above. Here is a screenshot:

(I use the batch converter btw, I find it more useful because I convert many files at a time rather than just 1 or 2)

The slider will tell you V0/V2 etc., and says what is higher or lesser quality. It can also convert to many other formats rather than mp3. Very useful program for audio converting.

For video converting, I use Xilisoft. I usually watch videos on my PC, but sometimes I want to convert them to my iPod touch. You can convert many kinds of formats to countless others. They also have HD codecs, which means I can convert a mkv file to the high-definition apple format. Let's see iTunes do that.
