Yep, dbpoweramp is solid. I personally use Mediamonkeys built in, and I think Winamp has a built in converter also, but thats because I like to use what I use to play audio and its easy to just right click, send to convert etc.
dbpoweramp though would be the "power" tool of the bunch, if you are looking for variety, thats probably the way to go.
As far as ripping, somebody already mentioned Exact Audio Copy (EAC), thats what I use and its really solid for perfect copies/backups.
I use for video ... Total Video Converter!!!
For audio, i use dBpoweramp and for video, i use Xilisoft. havent needed anything else.
i use SUPER for everything
For every audio conversion, I use foobar2000 with the latest codecs.
It provides a very simple way to process a conversion between every recognized audio codec, plus many other functionalities I've not found in other media players.
