Default MAC OS and Windows 7 on a Dual Boot

I am wanting to experiment with one of my laptops.

I have a pretty fast laptop with lots of memory and HD space. My buddy came over with his netbook he got at Walmart for $250 and when he booted it up there was MAC OS.

Been reading articles of people doing a dual boot on a PC with both MAC and Windows on there.

Has anyone in TI done this and have any suggestions on the best instructions to do this?

    Thanks!

Hi. I have done this before on a desktop. It is fairly easy to do. The hardest part is going to be getting all of the hardware to work 100%. There are some things that just dont have kexts (mac drivers) and are impossible to get to work. I had everything working perfectly except my wireless card. It is fairly fast and was fun to mess with. Use the two sites on this page here and the guides/compatibility charts on them and you should be fine OSx86 Project | InsanelyMac

Thanks lightyear I'll check out those sites.

I know he said I may have problem with drivers so that'll just have to be a gamble and research. But this will get me started.

Your hardware should be very similar to the one of a real mac,to make leopard works. You have to download the leopard iso (Tubgirl, Uphuck,JaS,ToH...)most compatible with your hardware and try it. Have a look here too Search for hackintosh The italian version of tom's hardware has a detailed installation guide, but I didn't find it in the english website Hackintosh - Installare Mac OS X su PC standard - Pagina 4 - Tom's Hardware

I've done it numerous times on my XPS M1530. It's a pain in the arse tbh, i have had to reinstall the OS about 6 times one after the other becuase i kept choosing the wrong file patches. But if you have a spair 5 odd hours its worth it! :D..

When i was dual booting it i had win7 as my base OS and i used EasyBSD to get the choise of booting into win7 or OSX. This also has some flaws, sometimes you can ruin your complete bootsector and then things can go wrong.

Main thing i can recomend is join Insainlymac [which is linked on the thread]... it's usefull and you can get all the patches you need. And you can check the wiki on their site which tells you whats compatable and what isnt [which they have tested]

But maybe that was just my n00bish attempts. I now just have OSX on the XPS. I'm going to be installing it onto my EEEPC when i have waisted my money on the Alienware M11x.

I have successfully done it.First install Windows then Hackintosh.. then repair the bootloader and install EasyBCD 2[beta] and add the hackintosh dual boot
...else there is another long process using linux..but its tiresome and more lengthy.

Years ago I installed Mac OS X on a Pentium 4 machine, and it was OK. Back to those days the OSx86 community was growing and there was not as much information as today. Take the advises from the other members and get a hardware as Apple-like as possible so you get better a experience.

Now I own a Mac and let me tell you something. Mac OS X is a great OS if you run it on Apple hardware, it's a very good synergy. Running it on a "generic" PC is a good experience, but it's not as pleasant as if you were using a real mac. That is just my humble opinion :)
