Do you own a SSD disk ? What was your first impression ?
My concern is that a SSD disk will just corrupt it self without warning in the area of the disk that is used most.
Because flash-memory have limited lifetimes and will often wear out after 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 write or erase cycles (1,000 to 10,000 per cell)
So I think I wait a little before I by a SSD disk.

    What do you think ?

I have owned the 40GB intel ssd drive and use it for OS and some applications. By the time it is ready to bite the dust these drives will be cheaper, obsolete or likely just better designed.

I had one that I used for a while. It made Windows snappier but in the end I didn't think it was worth the cost and sold it.

Most people who use an SSD also have a large HDD since SSDs are so expensive and small. Backup the SSD to the HDD daily and if/when the SSD fails you don't lose anything. Most of them have a 3 year warranty as well, and they way SSDs are progressing the current crop will be very outdated by then (unlike tradition HDDs that are mostly focused on increasing space and not speed).

My next PC build will have an SSD for sure, one of the things I'm waiting for is the new Sata 6gb. AMD new chipsets already have it and there are a few SSDs that do as well.

Seagate came out with a hard drive that features a small portion of SSD on it to boost access times and it seems the reviews are excellent. 80% faster than a traditional drive is a pretty solid increase. Personally I've seen so many drives fail that I don't trust platters regardless. Backup backup backup!

Solid State Drives. In my opinion they are overly rated, and highly priced. The only good thing is that, they have no moving parts. You will get increased speed in Operating System, and a small boost in performance, the downfall is low disk space. I would rather get a pair of raptor drives and a raid. I think this will be a more reliable way of running in my computer!

To add to all that, you will not have to defrag an SSD :D

I wouldn't use them for anything except maybe a small one for the OS to boot off of. I'm sure there will be something better/faster soon anyway it's all just hype... Load times aren't bad enough to the point where I'd consider spending all that money for such little space.

unless the price comes down, i do not believe SSD is worth the cost... However, have just one SSD for the operating system seems to be a good idea.
