Default Does anyone own an AMD six-core?

As the title says I am looking for users on here that own an AMD six-core processor. Doesn't matter which model.

I have been debating on a possible upgrade to my system via the AMD six-core. Currently they have or are about to release the AMD Phenom II 1045T.

This CPU clocks in at 2.7Ghz. It is built around the 45nm Thuban core and it will support DDR3-1333. It's awfully tempting to buy this particular model even though I have not seen any benchmarks yet (haven't looked much other than maximupc).

I have a side project (home server) as well in which I am debating on using an AMD six-core for it but I would like some input from those who actually own one.

In all honesty I am unsure as to whether I want to upgrade with this or built a system around it. This is why I am wanting to know from those who own one. One of the main tasks for my home server is video encoding so I would like to know if it's worthwhile for that task.

If I choose to upgrade it will replace my Intel Core i7 920 CPU which I love however I would not want to part with if the six-core isn't actually worth it compared to the i7 920. If this is the case then I will most likely use it on a home server provided owners of the six core AMD provide positive feedback on it.

I currently have the amd 1090t overclocked to 3.99 ghz with the auto boost shut off. that overclock is on standard air cooling and is running stable. in my opinion i love the amd 6 core but ive always been kinda partial to amd even when they had their cpu problems. :( but encoding wise it takes my 6 core pc about 16 minutes to encode video files to dvd format and an extra 5 minutes to burn. as far as benchmarks go I will reread the rules here as i am new and see if i can post links to benchmarks numerous sites are putting the amd 6 core cpu up against the 920's and 930's of intel. one question to ask yourself is the proggys you are using able to utilize all 6 cores can they only use 1 core or 2 core or just 4 core. it all depends on how many threads your application can handle. any other questions let me know i am always happy to talk cpu's :) hope this helped

Well typically I use programs such as xvid4psp and handbrake for converting and such. These programs use all four or my cores.

I am looking into other programs right now as I wish to do the encoding for a couple of fansub groups to kinda help out (in the only way I can because I don't know any Japanese lol). I am unsure if I were to use handbrake or any other program out that if they would use 6 cores or not. I remember my first quad core most of what was available didn't use but two cores at a time however we have seen that change rapdily as we get bigger and better cpu's out on the market.

As far as the benchmarks go if you can not post them here you could PM the links to me. I would greatly appreciate it. It will be probably another month and half before I actually go into building the home server or upgrading my system as I am waiting on my old job (which was closed down but is being reopened) to come back in a couple of weeks.

well after looking more into this for cost to power ratio the amd 6 core outperforms the 920 and 930 in alot of categories but the 920 and 930 also outperform the 6 core in a few categories i would deffo say go with the amd. but its all personal choice im just hoping this site is good about being corgial because there is alot of opposition saying that the intel dominates. so im just saying this as my personal opinion. also i will be sending you pm's of sites for comparisons of the cpus

    cheers
    happy building
