    Default Samsung Drives worth it?

I am in the market for two new TB drives and wondering if Samsung Spinpoint drives are worth it. They are a little bit cheaper than WD and Seagate but if the general concensus is that they suck I'll go with one of the big two.

Please post what you all think and what experiences you have had with different drive brands over the years. To torrenters HD stability is of ultimate importance.

I've tried a few Samsung HDDs and never had any issues with them.

Which Samsung drive are you referring to? Is it a 32 MB cache one? I'm assuming it's a 7200 RPM. How much cheaper is it compared to WD or Seagate? Will you be simply max partitioning the drives or will there be multiple partitions? Will they be for storage only or are you planning to use them for executables?

All in all, if price is enough to warrant a purchase then go for it. From my experience, they're quite durable and pretty quick. Factory warranty is 3 years anyways so that shouldn't be much of a problem. Just remember to allocate the drives as 64 kilobytes and you'll notice file transfers being a tad zippier.

I generally use WD or Seagate, I find that seagate is the one of choice for me though. It offers better speeds, is stable, and is reasonably priced.

Is it for a laptop or pc?

I've never bought a Samsung drive before, I used to buy only Seagate drives but their quality it's not as good as before. So I've been only getting WD for a while now and I have no complaints.

You can go to Newegg and select the drive that you are planning to buy, and check the reviews they have on that specific drive. I would buy Samsung instead of Seagate, that's for sure.

I've had Samsung drives before, but that was several years ago, before this huge storage boom. WD gave me trouble in the past but they're so much better now. I personally haven't really heard of any trouble from Samsung. But then again, it might be because their standing in the HDD market is small.

If it's really cheap or something, and it's worth the price, I say go for it. I like paying an extra $5-10 for something I know will work for a piece of mind.

Default Samsung Drives Have Been Good to Me

I usually buy Seagate because they have the longest warranty, but I've had to RMA a lot of them. Hitachi/IBM also have problems from time to time. I've never had any trouble with a Samsung hard drive, and I'd trust them completely. FWIW, I've dealt with a lot of drives as I supervised a small media production lab at college, so I think I've got a reasonable sample, data-wise.

Like most I prefer WD. Samsung for me has been reliable but more so in the optical drive department. I have and use an old Samsung 200GB HDD for photos and music.

A few months back I bought a Hitachi 1TB HDD and have been really impressed with it. Plus it's priced rather nicely.

I have to agree with hitman here.
Samsung aint the kinda brand you want to waste your money on. The HDD's aint that reliable.
I suggest something like WD for a normal HDD. But for SSD I would have to say Intel.

I just had a couple of WD crash on me recently, Yes they were out of the 3 year warranty but its really devastating to lose of 400GB worth of data......I'll go with WD again as they HAVE been reliable but...you know how it is.
