Default Dual Boot XP and 2000

I currently have XP right now and when I want to install Windows 2000 on another partition while running XP, I have the following error
"This CD-ROM is from an older version of Windows than the one you are presently using. Setup functionality from this disk will be disabled"
Is there a method to bypass this
    Thanks

Is it a bootable CD...though I never installed 2000 before but if you use a bootable CD for anything these errors are never an issue... ;)

well we have bootable 2000 you can google some stuff about it if you are not having one of those...I am sure if it's bootable you won't get any error like this...

Well it is on my netbook that does not have a CD rom so I mounted it to a virtual drive and then ran it. That is how I dual booted XP and Linux in the past, for this case, does not appear to work.

My guess is your going to need an external CD drive or possibly copy the files to a flash drive and try to boot it that way.

Why are you installing Windows 2000 if you don't mind me asking?

It sounds like your trying to install it from within windows xp. It is probably thinking you want to upgrade...but its an older OS than xp, thus why you're getting that error. I personally have never tried to install a 2nd OS through a windows environment so i wouldnt know how to guide you through that or if its even possible.

The 2 options i see available are:

    A) You could probably buy an external cd/dvd drive (plugs into a usb slot) as seen here, burn it to a cd, restart, access the boot menu and boot to the usb device.
    B) Toss it onto a thumbdrive and do the same process as described above.

Have you looked into running it through a virtual machine such as virtualbox or vmware? I'm not sure if it can be done or not with win2k. Only issue with that is that you may not be able to utilize the features you are interested in. Its worth a look though.

Just some thoughts but i hope that helps.

Googled some items for you regarding the virtual machine install

To install from xp using VMWare - Here

To install from linux using VMware - Here

Possible fix if your running a 64bit os (are you?). I know it says its a vista fix but its the fastest one to try. - Here (see 4th post)

I managed to install Windows 2000 on a virtual machine, however upon installation of the software, I have the same error as I have in XP. I guess, it is a different problem than I though it was.
