    Default HD Media Players

Interested what people use to play their collection of movies/tv shows/music

I just bought an ASUS HDP-R3 O!Play Air Media Player
(I'm eagerly waiting for it to arrive)
    Although I was tossing up between the;
    WDTV Live
    and the Patriot box office

But settled on the Asus because of the integrated wireless n rather than having to buy a wireless dongle.

I'll stick to my HTPC. Nothing will ever reach this compatibility and flexibility (besides another PC ;)). You can watch any kind of movie, play games, surf the internet ...

Okay, it's not that small and cheap, but for me that's worth it. :001_smile:

Well yes ideally building a HTPC would probably be the best option but for those on a tight budget it's not really an option

PS3 is the way to go. For $300 you're getting games, BluRay, and a media center.

Default ASUS HDP-R3 O!Play Air Media Player

Just bought a WD TV Live HD Media Player yesterday, still did not open the box, gonna do the testing today. After doing some research on the web, I choose to buy the WD. I don't know how I missed the ASUS HDP-R3 O!Play Air Media Player, It looks amazing. Now I don't know what to do, Should I return the WD and buy the ASUS or just stick with WD. If the difference is only the wifi dongle, then I think it's ok if I stick with WD. What do you think guys? In another hand, WD has youtube, pandora and live365 on the device.

Hope I'm not too late to tell you alasbahi:
    "DON'T RETURN THE WDTV LIVE!"

I wish so much I had got the WDTV live rather than the asus o!play i've had constant problems with the asus ever since I got it. Well not really problems there is only one really and thats the networking. I get constistenly bombared with the dreaded Logonfail! and sometimes it works for my laptop and not for my desktop and at present its not working at all for my desktop and now the laptop has taken OVER the desktop shortcuts entirely

This probably makes no sense if you don't own the O!play air, I guess what I'm trying to say it has serious flaws and while the last firmware update was released the start of march who knows when the next one will be and how successful it will be.

I've sent emails to asus and make posts at their forum with no luck, really dissapointed and am contemplating selling the asus o!play air on ebay and getting the wdtv live and just cutting my losses.

I have a mediagate, dont use it due to lack of MKV, Now use WD liveTV plugged into my network(ran cat6 to te theater room) and its great, can access all the files on my PC, and play them. Thinking of getting a ASRock ION330 Mini Barebone PC Black [SYSASRI3301A] - $299.00 : PC Case Gear ASRock ION330 Mini and plugging a USB tv tuner in it and recording TV, and sending it to my PC over the network.

That really sucks turdation. For $189.00, that is a big flaw. I am waiting the the WDTV to go down in price, but for the time being, I am using my computer as my media center.

Well I managed to get the asus linked to both computers but one has to go via UPNP, not exactly ideal in terms of security but saves me from pulling my hair out mucking around with networking

    Hey there turdation.

Sorry for the late reply. I did not return the WD TV LIVE :) It is awesome. I am enjoying it every day. Got it wired up to my PC. It really is an easy to setup device & easy to use. Since now, I have had no issue's with the device. Sorry for your bad pick. I always had bad luck in buying something that I was intending to buy, always turned out that there is a better device or product than what I have bought. This time I was lucky. Hope you will fix all your issue's and start enjoying the device. Cheers!
