I've got one in my vaio, it boots really quick and I like it.
The best think is, that it is quite and keep cool.
Getting one as soon as my budget allows it.. or they come down in price, heh.
I want one...
I'll wait until I start seeing higher capacities and lower prices, however.
I hope that in the future, hardware and software will be able to pass trim commands to SSD's in RAID arrays, then I will buy 2 Intel 80GB and put them in raid 0, when they come out with the 3rd of 4th gen.
I would like to own a SSD, however due to the price it's not an option at the moment.
I would like to ask though if someone would be willing to answer. Other than a fast boot time (as I rarely turn my PC off) what benefits are gained?
I had toyed around with the ideal to buy say an 80GB SSD and load my O/S on it whild using my regular sata HDD for storage. Would I be better off going this route or would it seems better to buy a larger SSD? I have combine internal and external a total of 3TBs of space of that about 1TB is anime.
One thing i hate is transferring larger sets of anime(10GBs and up) because it's time consuming. If I had let's say a anime series that was 16.5GBs in size would my transfer rate from the SSD to a HDD improve significantly?
I would like to know because as of late I download 720p and 1080p videos (720p if 1080p is not available).
I have an intel x-25m 160 gb 1st gen, and i am running into some problems now that I had it for over a year... there is a gradual degradation of speed that you will have, and Intel Tech Support's only solution is to do a secure wipe hoping that it will restore the SSD to its former glory... nevertheless, ssd is a great option for a laptop, even with my degraded performance it is doing way way better than any conventional HDD could.
Thank you bridskid for repping me in!!!
Thank you Veritas for your help on the IRC channel
If youre on a budget, why would you get an SSD? Why not get a better GPU, more memory, or a better CPU?
Very poor investment if youre looking for overall performance for the dollar.
yes, they are about 2 times faster than a good 7200 RPM SATA II. But keep in mind that this is only for read/write. I.e the only things its going to help is booting, opening programs, or reading/writing/moving big files.
Its not going to improve gaming or general usage.
