    Default Motherboard

I am thinking of building a new computer myself. I bought my computer about 9 years ago and i paid $1600. At the time it was super pimp. you can now buy a computer similar to mine at Dollar Tree. I have did some research on different brands and specs of mother boards but i wanted to know what board your using, whats interesting about it , and your user experience not to mention price. thanks!

    my specs:
    Hp 764 n
    1.5 ram
    2.6 ghz
    pent 4
750 hdd (wish i had sata)
    HD 4550 ATI
My mother board is not worth mentioning because it doesn't even have PCI express :(

well my motherboard is Abit i have been using this company for many years and i am very pleased with how everything works. never had any problem with it. a computer that i bought 8 years ago still working hard with no issue at all.
i also used asus motherboards and i have to say that although everyone says its a great motherboard i had alot of problems with them.. some of them had issues with the memmory slots and some just died.
also keep away from GIGABYTE‎ they have so much problems...
any way there is another very good company that i know MSI . my dad uses thier motherboards for years and they do the job :)

    hope i have helped .

I'd disagree and say Gigabyte have probably the the most reliable and probably strongest all-round motherboards.
Have a google and you'll see Google actually use Gigabyte boards in their servers.

One bad point about Gigabyte is they have poor customer support. I emailed them about a problem with softRaid and SMART and the info they gave me was just plain wrong.

I've used ASUS for so long and never had any problems. And they don't even value their warranty, but in a good way. As in, even when it's up... they'll still replace your stuff if it breaks. I had a mobo 2 years past warranty and southbridge fan died and melted the chip they sent me a newer mobo for free, shipping paid and all. Depending on your budget, ASUS/AMD is gonna be the best bang for you buck as far as performance goes in my opinion. However if you have more to spend, then that opens up your options. EVGA has amazing customer support for everything, video cards and their mobos. I haven't used gigabyte much but they will definitely run no matter what. One of my parents PC's has seen a couple HDD's and 3 CPU's swapped out but that motherboard is still chugging along like new.

Thanks to Freedom for repping me in.

I would say Gigabyte is as good as any other brand :) I use it for about two years and had no problems, want so ever. When I consider motherboard, I usually consider Gigabyte and Asus. Both have good products, IMHO. If I were choosing a motherboard at this time, I would look at something with at least 6 SATA ports build in. 8 is even better :). That is besides the Intel vs. AMD choice, I am not getting into that :D.

I have used three different System, and have put Asus Motherboard.....
Work fine, never got a problem..... There products are damn good....

I havent used EVGA, but have heard great reviews about its motherboard aswell!!!
I have actually thought o buy an EVGA motherboard next time I buy a system!!!

So my full support Asus and EVGA.... aND ACCORDING to the processor you gonna use the model may vary.... And also it is based upon your utility => Gaming, Workstation or Home...........

Anyways try to get a motherboard with latest Pention chip in it!!!
    Best of luck....

I wish i had SATA ports in my computer . i have ribbon all through mine. Do you know how hard it is to find a tera IDE. its impossible. I started out trying to upgrade various parts when i realized that i am only going to go so far. My tower is the size of a shoe box :( . over the years after replacing hard drives, ribbons, burners, power supply, AGP video card, i have come to the conclusion that my mother board is holding me back. With the money that i have put into my obsolete equipment, i could of bought my OWN system put together with my best ideas in mind. Its takes failure after failure to relize its time to thrown in the towel. I have much homework to do before choosing a board. thanks to all for the input, it will prove usefull to me in the future.
