Default Questions about Burning DvD9 image files

    Hey everyone,
I am having issues burning / compressing (image file) my ripped DvD9- IFOs, BUP, and VOBs. All of my DvD9 ISOs seem too big to burn to dual layer DvDs. The stander size for dual layer dvds are around 7.4 gigs, but all of my mine is at 7.8 and higher. What's the biggest size ISO file that can still get burned to dual layer dvd? I don't want to lose any quality by shrinking it or remove dvd extras, menus and such. How do I get nice DvD9 untouched image file to the stander size?

    I use Ripit4Me & DvDshrink for ripping
    IMBburn for creating ISO format

Well, I currently have some very nice memorex dual layer DVDs that I purchased on sale that are 8.5 gigs each, so I must say that your dual layer DVDs are a little on the small side. Getting that out of the way I recommend cloneDVD2 because of it's ability to burn a DVD to a specified size without any unnecessary quality loss. It gives you a very simple "target size" option which would work perfectly for you. I know that is works with DVD9 files, but am unsure about the others listed., worth a shot though

That's quite strange. I've never had an issue where dvd9s aren't fitting onto DVD-DLs.
It seems that you're ripping from DVD-9 to VOBs and then reconverting to ISO.
That's not really necessary to do if you're not shrinking them down or deleting extras.

I would rip to ISO and then burn the ISO straight to DVD-DL.

I use AnyDVD to rip to ISO.
IMGBurn to burn ISO to DVD

The standard capacity for a DVD DL is about 7.9GB. The usually reported 8.5GB is calculated where 1 gigabyte is calculated as 1000 megabytes. Ether way there should't be a problem burning DVD9s to DVD DL.

Wow thanks, I never knew that one. I guess cloneDVD was doing it's job keeping me nice and blind. Do you think there is a difference in burning the iso from anyDVD and the DVD9 files in cloneDVD? They are made by the same company and I would assume they use the same format.

Thanks for the information. I actually already had the IFOs on my computer and was looking to burn them. I wanted to know why my ISO was bigger then the stander DvD9 format. Does anydvd have clean up of the vobs like RipIt4Me does? I want to keep these ISO as small as possible without killing the quality.

    Thanks again guys. :)

Make sure you can actually burn DL first.
You can use INFOTOOL for this purpose.

Most original pressed dvd's are around the 7-8 gb range! So you should'nt have a problem. I do use anydvd and clonedvd. Just make sure the target file is at dvd dl? It should copy direct. You could also use anydvd to rip to hard drive and burn the file with imgburn?

    Default Dual Layer Problems

You could have problems with the discs. Dual layer media is shakier than single layer. Verbatim is the most reliable. Memorex pretty much such. Some burners, especially the 'slim' ones in laptops, are much pickier with DL media than std burners, and some slim burners that are supposed to be DL don't work at all.

I've had the best luck with standard size Pioneer burners. Check the reviews on the optical gear sites like CD-Labs before you invest in a new burner.

A commercial DVD9 can contain more data than you can put on a DL blank, but it's rare to encounter such discs as other have noted. My suggestion would be to use DVD Shrink and delete stuff you don't want -- subpicture tracks, foreign audio tracks - replace trailers and stuff with still pix. Don't compress the feature at all, else there's no reason to be burning to DL to begin with.
