Thread: iPod Touch questions

Well guys and gals i plan on getting a ipod touch the 3rd gen, not sure which size yet. Well i have a few questions regarding it and i am sure many people here have it and will be willing to answer my questions.

Okay from the get-go i was lazy and didn't want to browse endless unreliable pages reading about it so im asking here.

1. Okay so what is this "jail broken" term given to the ipod touch? Does it mean that it can be hacked.

2. Can it be hacked, and HOW?

3. If it is hacked can i add anything i want, like apps and stuff, cause i don't want to pay for apps and games and stuff.

4. Removed as it violated the rules --> Thanks goes to el2em for notifying me.

5. Do i have to worry about versions and stuff like that, because i hate that stuff. Like to i have to upgrade ti a certain version, downgrade, and that annoying stuff.

6. Any other info you want to give.

Feel free to link me to a tutorial or video on how to hack it, actually i would appreciate it.

Haha no problem. I would help you with your thread, but I don't have an iphone nor itouch so I'm unfamiliar with such things. I'm sure a simple google search for itouch jailbreak or itouch cydia will give you numerous results. Secondly, I would like to redirect you to HowardForums .. I go there for all my mobile questions. Anyways, to simply answer some of your questions. Yes, jail broken means you've essentially hacked your iTouch. It gives you the ability to install apps (custom or pirated) that is unavailable in the App store.

- jailbreaking is like setting it free and u can do anything with you iPhone u do this with blackra1n the best and easyest program what you do is : usb to ipod run exe on comp, it will take 2 min, now u ipod will restart, tadaa u got a icon (blackra1n) on ur ipod in there u ONLY install cydia witch is like the appstore but free, not apps but more like themes etc

- in cydia u add a sourcer (hackulo) therefrom u find hackulo category in cydia and install it u get an icon on ipod now and can download anything for free even 200 $ programs

- well yea but its easy if u got itunes installed, first u gotta know what ur current is (i got iphone) u press on options>general>about. scroll down and find firmware 3.1.2 is the best one and itunes can help u by upgrading just do NOT make it 3.1.3

I got a few more questions:

1. After jail braking it can you change version upgrade/downgrade or not?

2. Also my friend had his jail broken and said that he could never turn it off, is this true?

1. no it dosnt chenge your firmversion
2. thats a bug u can do 2 things that is good ; hold the home button (the circle buttone at the middle lower with a squere in midle of the button) while holding it also hold down the other button on right upper with will lock you ipone/ipod, hold em at same time and keep doing it, in 5 sec or more and it will restart (like holding the turn on button on ur computer)
the other is to use blackrain again witch is the best solution

tethering is when you connect your iphone to your comp using the usb cable and you can browse the internet using your iphones 3g signal but i believe you have to sign up for this with your provider, also jailbraking your ipod/iphone voids its warranty so if anything goes wrong with it your on your own.

yea ur warrenty goes, but its like u the only that can get wrong if u use a firmversion witch hsould be used

1-you can always downgrade and upgrade your ipod touch(but you have to be careful). the only thing you should be careful is the version you use is fully untethered.

2-you can always use dfu mode and recover the ipod via itunes.

3- tethered means : whenever you close your ipod u have to find a computer to open it.it is a very quick process but annoying.thats why you have to be careful about your version.i dont know 3g is jailbreaked or not because blackra1n stopped to work on ipod.
