There are many such software. Although, depending what ports your school have open, you might be limited to what you can or cannot use. Personally, I would just enable Remote Desktop Connection on your home PC and use that. It uses the basic 3389 port.
Other programs you might want to try out are as follows:
LogMeIn
TeamViewer
anyplace-control
i hope this helps you on the way
Turn on Remote Desktop in Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek
If you have static IP address at home, much more easier for you is to use Remote Desktop, if not - TeamViewr uses a centralized server and you can use it even without Static IP and Open Ports.
Check out. Nuxinov : Put your computer in the cloud
It is marketed as cloud computing, but the files remain on your pc's. Also openvpn is pretty useful. Or there is just RDP or VNC (preferred)...

I have setup Remote Desktop following this guide. If you want to do it this way make sure your ISP lets you open ports 80 to host a website.

I would use Remote Desktop as well. It's already built into XP/Vista/7 so you wouldn't need to download and install any new software. You just have to remember to write down your IP at home if it's dynamic in order to connect to it from school.
If you only want to access your home files from school, you could just run FileZilla - The free FTP solution (setup server at home) and this at school, FileZilla Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives, on a USB drive and you're good to go. Remember the IP again if it's dynamic.
I think there is a software called teamviewer where you can see and control actions on the other computer by just being connected to each other via teamviewer :) but i think you will need full version so you`ll have to buy or crack x)
but if your like me, you`ll find a crack on google in no time :)
CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE TEAMVIEWER SITE
I also found a Description, so you can check if its that your looking for :
TeamViewer allows you to connect to the desktop of a partner anywhere on the Internet.
TeamViewer also works in the other direction: Show your own desktop to a partner over the Internet and demonstrate your own software, solutions and presentations. With TeamViewer you can remotely control any PC anywhere on the Internet. No installation is required, just run the application on both sides and connect.
