The truth is that Flash has become an old, fat, heaving beast that's gasping for air. The only uses it has are online streaming video and unbelievably obnoxious banner ads. With HTML5 and H.264, though, its primary use will be gone, and I highly doubt anybody is going to install a plugin just so they can see banner ads...
This is nothing new for Apple. Remember back in 1997 when they introduced the first iMac? It had no floppy drive and no SCSI or parallel ports - just this newfangled "USB" thing. People thought they were crazy. 4-5 years later, though, guess what? USB was everywhere and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who still made use of floppies with the abundance of CD-RW drives around.
