Idk if any of you have a Dell notebook with a samsung PM800 in it but if you do read this carefully and take action!

Here is the link to Dells community forum. I encourage you to read as much as you want. It's really quite entertaining and gives you a good idea of how shitty dells cust. support is.
SAMSUNG 256 gb SSD Firmware Update for Windows 7 TRIM? - DELL COMMUNITY

If you don't read this anyway and tell me what you think about this whole situation.

So a brief summary: I (along with tens of thousands others) bought a dell notebook a few months ago with a 256 gb SSD. Sounds sick right these drives are quick as hell. And we also paid a lot of $$$$ for these.

Basically Dell released these drives with a firmware that does not support windows 7's trim feature. Which does alters how the drive reads and writes to extend the life of the SSD's. W/O this trim feature SSD's suffer from a drastic decline in performance and can literally become unusable after a period of time. (anywhere from a couple months to a year or two)

Now these drives were a samsung brand and samsung released a f/w update for these exact drives about a month ago to support all of windows 7's amazing features. However this update does NOT work for the drives that were shipped in the dell computers. Why? because Dell tweaked the drives in some liittle way that the f/w does not work.

heres the outrageous part. DELL WON'T RELEASE THEIR OWN FIRMWARE FOR THEIR DRIVES!

these are near $1000 hard drives!!!

and believe me this f/w update is a CRITICAL UPDATE.

I don't know why they wont release the firmware. If you read through the discussion forum you'll see just how pissed off we are.

In the end for me I successfully was able to say my hard drive was crazy slow and they sent me a brand new (upgraded even) SSD with the correct firmware :) I was happy about that. But I am furious with how dell has handled this whole situation. They now do not replace drives for this issue. And by doing this have left A LOT of people who paid top dollar for a drive with a drive similar to a normal 7200 rpm spinning platter. Give it a little more time and these drives will be completely useless.

So like I said if you have one of these drives and were unaware about this. DO SOMETHING. PISS MOAN YELL SCREAM AT DELL. Until they give you a new drive.
