Well, it is an enterprise class 2.5" hdd... 10k rpm... All i can say is... What the hell!!!

Today the firm said that its Savvio 10k.4 drive is the world's highest-capacity and most reliable 2.5-inch hard drive presently available to enterprise buyers. These claims, Seagate explained, stem from the drive's capacity of 600GB - double that of the competition - and its 'unprecedented' 2 million hours Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) reliability rating.

savvio-10k4-hresSeagate added that that drive is designed specifically for enterprise users, is self-encrypting, and has power and performance tweaking options. One optional feature can be invoked to detect the corruption of data 'in flight' between the host system and the drive, while overall the drive has been designed to reduce end user cooling and energy consumption requirements.

Howard Shoobe, senior manager, Dell Storage Product Management, gave his backing to the release, saying, "Our customers face challenging storage needs requiring the most efficient use of space and power while maintaining the highest performance possible. The new 2.5-inch 10K-RPM 600GB capacity point allows a doubling of capacity within the same rack space of current 3.5-inch 15K 600GB drives while increasing overall system-level performance and decreasing power usage."

The Savvio 10k.4 hard drive is available now. We are checking UK prices and will update this as soon as possible. µ

Seagate makes the worst HDDs, my 1.5TB literally clicks and stutters my computer. I also can't torrent while watching a movie off that HDD. :( Hopefully this line up is better.

I disagree! I have had many hardrives over the years. I have had 3 drive failures in this time - all of which have been Western Digitals.

I have seagate drives that have been running 24/7 for over 5 years without a single problem. I will only buy seagate drives

I've also got a fair amount of brand loyalty built up with seagate. I've had WDs and Hitachi drives without issue, but after having lost drives Seagate has been the best at replacing them under warranty. Sea Tools is also pretty stellar.

Well... it is just a matter of a bit of luck and personal experience dealing with the customer experience... When my last 512 GB WD hdd failed... they actually offered me an upgrade... Well, i got a free terabyte upgrade... even if green power... more storage... more power :D
