Thread: New computer? Any suggestions?

Probably Getting a new computer quite soon, this is going to be more of a budget pc/ a low end gaming machine. So far my hardware for this computer I am considering is:



ANTEC Sonata III Quiet Super Mini Tower w/ EarthWatts 500W
Intel Core™ i3 Processor 530 2.93GHz w/ 4MB Cache
Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 w/ Dual DDR3 2200, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, 1394, PCI-E, CrossFireX
Patriot Extreme Performance Viper Series DDR3 3GB PC3-10666 Enhanced Latency DIMM Kit
250 GB Hard drive (Most likely I'll get a External one later so I won't be needing a huge one)
XFX Radeon HD 5770

Any suggestions? (The price range I'm in is around 750 Canadian)
AMD isn't really a choice since the place I'm getting it at doesn't have any DDR3 compatible Motherboards T_T and if they do they are so expensive...

I like the video card you chose alot. Also the motherboard looks really nice for the price.
I would have said AMD but you already addressed that.
And I know you said you didn't need a small hard drive but when you get that low its usually only a couple of dollars to get up to 320 or 500gbs.

Also out of curiosity, where are you purchasing this from? do they have a website?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that new video card so badly, since I've been running on a integrated one for so long... T_T
Well I could go for a larger one but I'll have to see what they have in-stock at the time since their website isn't the best at keeping items updated...

(O___O)||. What a coincidence, I just got back from troubleshooting a GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard. Seems for some the motherboard is unstable, making the pc randomly give a BSOD or lockups. The error in Windows points out to driver issues but what worked so far for me (hopefully it really fixed the problem) was increasing the ram voltage and disabling a few bios settings.

Search for GA-P55M-UD2 BSOD if you'd like to know more about it.

Oh ouch... I'll have to look into that or possibly changing my mother board then. Thanks for the heads up!

I might be getting E8400 or Q8400 bcause they are like the best cpu's to overclock. I'd recommend people getting them if they want to OC.
