Default need some help exporting files

I hope someone can help me with this. I just got my new and first ever server.
It downloads torrents great but because of a relay or something you cannot play any files directly from my server disk with a media player.

Is there a way that I can transfer my avi files from my server disk to my own harddrive.
I am really a bit of a noob so could you give me a step by step way of doing this.
    Muchas Gracias

I am not an expert on this but If I am not mistaken, Filezilla could help you with that. Check this website, it has a tutorial about transfering files.

Any FTP program can do the job. CuteFTP and FileZilla are recognized clients.

How do you connect to your server? Are you using Remote Desktop, FTP, Web UI, or something else?

If you're using Remote Desktop then you can configure it so that you can simply do "Copy" from the server then "Paste" on your PC (of course it takes time to transfer the files depending on your internet speed). If you can use FTP, then any FTP client will do just like Reducto and Archi suggested.

Hi m8 well exactly no matter what I do I am still limited by my own speed connection. So thats no longer a option. What I am trying to figure out is why the files will not play properply on the server itself when I installed the media players on the server also. Could it be that I would need a video card on the server itself for me to actually watch movies from there not having to download anything from the server to my home computer. You see the serve has so much speed I download a new movie from TL like 700 mb and it took 5 mins! but then the problem I do not know how to play the darn thing

I guess from what you described that you're using Remote Desktop, or maybe VNC or a similar tool that allows you to login remotely to the server and view its desktop. What you need to understand is that using Remote Desktop you maybe able to access the GUI interface of the server and you may feel (if you have pretty good internet speed) that it is no different (speed wise) from using your own PC. However, video playback is a different story. Usually the frame rate of the video is too much for remote desktop to handle in real time. No matter how fast is your connection you will not be able to view the video over Remote Desktop in real time.

However, if you insist on trying this, you maybe able to view some images from the video if you change the renderer device, but those images will be very slow and will be very very low in quality.

if using media player classic, try setting the renderer to VMR7 (windowed) or VMR7 (renderless). You can access the rendering options via View -> Options -> Playback -> Output

Xen35 is correct. When you are logged into the server you are seeing the desktop at a low frame rate. If you wanted to watch a movie on the remote desktop, your connection would actually need to be faster than streaming it directly off the server to your computer because it would need to handle both the video and remote desktop, not to mention that remote desktop was never built for streaming anything that required a decent frame rate.

Your only real option to watch it is to either sit down directly at your server and hook up a monitor (lol, don't do that), or the correct way, to download it to your computer and watch it from there. Unfortunately, there is not way to get around that...you will just need to take the time to download it :-(

There is something which might help you watch it slightly sooner though. If you use "VLC Media Player" you can begin watching the movies while they are still downloading. This allows you to spend, depending on your connection speed, a minute or two downloading the movie from the server, then start watching it even though it is only 20% downloaded. The rest will continue to download while you are watching it, so you will not even notice a difference. The time you have to wait to start the movie without interruptions depends on your connection speed. Note that this method will not work with half-torrented files because torrents download files in pieces - use the FTP method for best results.

Yes your both correct. My guy that has the servers in Miami is able to play the vids from remote desktop but he's right there and has all the speed he needs. I have been trying to steam it with the vlc howevr all the instructions on he net are outdated . S my current VLC is mch differnt than the instructions. The only good thing my server is for is to seed that I can do with speeds up to 5 mps. But they will only sit on the hardrive and ten if I ftp them to my home computer the whole deal will take more time than just downloading locally

That is all a seedbox is meant to do. You CAN stream the video off of them using VLC but it is probably easier to just copy the files to your local harddrive.

Seedboxes on high speed networks are typically able to download large files within minutes, provided that the swarm can actually handle such a high upload bandwidth. Seedboxes generally have download and upload speeds of 100 megabits per second. This means that a 1 GB file can finish downloading in under 2 minutes. That same 1 gigabyte file can be uploaded to other users in the same amount of time, creating a 1:1 upload:download ratio for that individual file. The ability of a seedbox to transfer files so quickly is a big attraction seedboxes hold within the P2P and BitTorrent communities.

Because of the mentioned high speeds, seedboxes tend to be extremely popular inside private torrent trackers, where maintaining an upload/download ratio above 1 can be very important, although this is frustrating to other users who do not have access to these types of resources and therefore struggle to maintain a good ratio.
