Thread: What is wrong with my CD Drive

Hello computer experts, I want to ask a question: I have a PC with two CD drives in it, in the last six months I'm having a problem with one of the cd drives because no matter what I do the tray keeps opening if there is no cd in it!

I tried closing it with my hands but few seconds later it opens again. I tried shutting down the machine and close the tray, but the second I power the machine on it opens. The only way I can keep it closed is by putting a cd/dvd in it.

By the way, if I put a cd/dvd in the drive, it works just fine and reads/writes perfectly so it is not broken...

And bye the way, the other drive is just fine, never done that before.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Have you tried removing it from the hardware list and letting the PC auto-detect it on startup?

I did what you suggested and the problem magically disappeared . But, if I know my cd drive well I would say it is matter of days before the problem surfaces again
