    Default damn

    FU****KKKKKK
I just lost 2 terabytes of data that i've kept archived for YEARS.
This is easily the worst day of my life.
    That shit was IRREPLACEABLE.
    Damn DAMN DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

    Here's what happened..
I have 2 new drives in a dualbay enclosure in raid 0.
I JUST had everything tested. The enclosure and the HDD's!
Cause I had some minor issues.
The damn technicians made some sort of mix up and initialized the disks as mbr instead of gpt (which is required for more than 2tb's and mine was 3)
Even though the drive said it was in GPT. After it reached the 2tb mark when I was moving all my files over everything went corrupt!
I rebooted everything and the disk was uninitialized and no data ANYWHERE.
Any ideas? Im pretty sure its completely gone.. but before I format..
    I'm gonna go cry now..

Sucks. I highly suggest that you get yourself this to prevent future screwies.

Hopefully you'll find a way to get at least some important stuff back if not all.

That seriously sucks Kon and I know it hurts really bad. Same thing happened with few weeks before, I lost around 1 TB of data and none of which was recovered. I was kinda sad for whole 2-3 days. Best remedy for you will be: first, try your level best to recover the data. This software helped me once. There are plenty of other softwares which you might already know. Second, if all else fails, just forget about it, keep the HD away from your eyes. And yes, I will help you find some good HQ movie packs. Laterz !!

If the data is extremely important, the first thing you could try is having your drives evaluated to a data recovery center. Reputable places usually do not charge evaluations and some claim over 90% recovery rate if you pay for it, but they do not guarantee it. However, data recovery through one of these companies could be costly. That is, you put a price tag on your data. How much is your data worth?

Usually these companies will require all drives to be functioning since in RAID 0 all drives are striped. If it is a physical failure, the data is likely gone unless the actual hardware can be fixed and made functional again. If it is a data corruption failure, then it is more likely to be able to recover it.

What strikes me is that if the data you lost was extremely important, what was the reason you set the drives RAID 0 (striped) which has a higher failure rate compared to RAID 1 and have the data mirrored?

In the case that you decide to reformat or cannot recover the lost data, I would seriously recommend setting the drives RAID 1 this time. Reliability over capacity so this does not happen to you again.

    Good luck.

so it was just movies? How hard can it be to find and re download them? I mean if you really liked the movies you would generally remember what they were called and blam your entire collection is back.

    Thanks for the tips guys.
Corrupt files are one thing but in this case they simply don't seem to exist anymore.
However, before I format I have a few things to try.
    Will report back.

Silversurfer, the ironic thing is I had spinrite on that HD lol.
I will get it again though.. I'm just running some surface tests to check for errors now.

About raid 1.. I don't have the money to be able to pay for 3tb and only get 1.5.
For me the risk is kinda worth it.
The shitty part is that I told myself I'd copy all the names to a text file (using a quick command)
since movies aren't hard to get back.
    I forgot though...

Ethicks, that's true, but remembering over 500 movies isn't that easy.
Also it was mostly movies not solely.
Some packs and stuff will be missed.
Blows that I hadn't even watched about half of it, chances of remembering all of that are pretty slim.
Also the time involved in finding and re-downloading it all is more than enough to make anybody angry. It's not gonna be like "blam".
Well, now i can focus on HD more.

might also try EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional. just used it a few weeks ago on one of my mom's hard drives (family photos) out of around 30,000 pictures, it recovered successfully around 28,000. not a bad ratio.
