Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Troubles
A huge firmware bug that will render your drive inaccessable! (not corrupt, thankfully.)
I did not find out about it until my HDD bricked this week!!!!!!
Check if you have firmware SD15, if so upgrade immediately!!!
Even if your HDD goes bunk, it's pretty fast/easy to get it fixed. Mine bricked maybe 3 months ago, (a 500gb 7200.11) and i just called up Seagate, and they refer you to some company (i forget the name), and they'll unbrick/install new firmware for you, for free. Took about 5 days for mine, which, although its a pain in the ass, and its Seagate's fault, is pretty good.

This is true. One issue is if you have an OEM computer or bought an OEM drive, you are not supported.
I am planning on calling up Seagate tomorrow to get them to fix it. I have heard some reports of people sending the drive in and Seagate techs borking it or trying to get them to pay for additional services etc etc, which leads me to want to try the at-home method, as I am technically proficient. The send-it-to-seagate method is certainly easier.
