Ubuntu is a great system, access to deb repositories is great, it has a nice config out of the box and is easy to use.

Only issue has been wireless networking, but I think that has gotten a LOT better in the last year. If you don't mind openoffice, I think you can really use it full time.

Personally, I am a windows user, just very familiar to me. With windows 7 there really is nothing to complain about windows for... if you love the command line go with the powershell, which lets you configure pretty much anything from the command line.

With xp and even to an extent vista, Ubuntu was comparable UI-wise. Windows 7 blows Ubuntu out of the water IMO.

Whats most appealing about Ubuntu is that its free. On top of that it has come so fucking unbelievably far, and its brought the whole Linux community with it. Support is awesome, theres alternatives for almost any windows app you can think of. Its only going to get better. And it will always be free.

I use it purely as something to play around with. Like mentioned above it's real easy right out of the box, and the repository for installing apps is very easy and very diverse. Also with Wine(yay for finally coming out of beta) you can run anything from windows you would like.

When it comes down to it though Windows 7 is doing everything I need at the moment, but some specialized programs do run better in a linux environment and it is always nice to have an option.

I agree with many of the above posts. I only use Ubuntu in a virtual environment - mainly to mess around with or familiarize myself with some of the command lines. I can then adapt this to a seedbox/dedicated server with a fresh basic installation of any distribution of Linux and, of course, root access. Right now, I'd rather stick with Win7.

what a great place to spam lol
Ubuntu became great since version 8 I think. Now it's 9.10... can't complain. Still have some bugs but already better than Windows XP IMO. 99% of people who installed Ubuntu is to download porn because it is much safer. The other 1% didn't confess yet.

I see things changing if they keep going the way they are. As far as games go at least.

Its free and its simple, but i would stick with windows. I know that windows have many fault, but i really can't see how ubuntu should be better than Mac or Windows. If you like open source/free os, go for linux, but use the open source or else don't change it.
