Default 32 bit or 64 bit on a comp with 3 GB ram? (windows 7)

I know the increased size of ram, improved stability etc with 64 bit. Just correct these statements:

    1. Windows 7 64 bit will run more smoothly on a comp with 3 GB than a 32 bit version
    2. Windows 7 32 bit will run more smoothly on a comp with 3 GB than a 64 bit version
    3. They are equal

I don't believe the "64" has anything to do with the amount of RAM, It has to do with if you are using a 64bit processor(dual core or above).

If you are using 32bit windows with a 64bit processor some of your computers resources are being wasted, but you only see the benefit if the software you are using has 64bit support.

Yes, statement 2 is correct. Although, I don't see the point in installing a 32 bit OS if you decide to increase your RAM to more than 4 GB. Basically, it's just a waste of time.

32 vs 64 has everything to do with RAM. In a 32bit environment, the highest amount of RAM that can be allocated is 4gb. There simply isn't enough addressing space beyond that amount. 64bit on the other hand can support 128+ gb of RAM.

Mainly i think its because you need drivers for 64bit, 32bit driver don't work on 64 bit windows. For some "old" hardware you may still be using there may not be any any drivers available for 64bit.

Also some programs have compatibility issues though no I don't run into problems as with Xp 64bit.

I will chose the 32 bits if the computer has only 3 gb of RAM... if it has 4 GB i will choose the 64 because i can use all the GBs

Go for an 64bit as you have the room for upgrade of ram in the future. I foresee 8GB ram in a PC as a norm in the near future
