    Default Soundcard: onboard x offboard

I have a onboard soundcard (supremefx II from asus maximus formula) and Logitech z2300 speakers, im thinking in to buy a good soundcard like asus xonar d2, would this give too much difference from the onbard sound? Also, when i try to compare mp3 x flac, i almost hear no difference beetwen the formats, and flac is so far much better than mp3, so with a good soundcard could i hear more sound ''details''? What do you guys think, the better sound quality will pay the price of the offboard soundcard?

I have a Steelsound 5H v2 headset, which goes with a 7.1 USB soundcard. And I love it! Great for gaming, but it also has a very nice bass for music or movies.

You'll change your mind about sound from that day over, but maybe you'll also need to reconsider your sound system ;)
