Does anyone know how to make an internal hdd to become an external hdd?
What are the complications of this? Where does the Hdd get it's power?

Yeah you can do ti with Disk enclosure something like this RX-358-S BLK (Black) 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA Ext. Enclosure they have their own power supply and you can connect them with an eSata, USB, firewire connection.
u can easily get a ext hdd case if u want to convert and int hdd to an ext hdd.....essentialy both r same, ext being enclosed in a case...which converts the SATA/IDE interface to USB.....only thing to remember is to get a casing frm a reputed company (like transcend).
if u hav a 2.5" hd then no external power is needed as the usb interface will supply the needed power to operate it....but if its an 3.5" HDD then u will get a power adaptor along with the case to power the HDD.
its pretty easy to convert and int hdd to an ext one.
hope this helps

google it!
seriously... better than asking on this forum
I did...
I just wanted to verify my findings and ask a few questions
Would it be better to just buy a disk enclosure and a 1TB internal HDD rather than an external HDD?
What's the cheapest, but still decent, enclosure that you guys would recommend?

depends on your needs. normally you have to ask yourself:
- do i want lots of space as cheap as possible or
- do i want to have much space and the content to be safe.
the first is easy, just any external big hdd should do.
for the latter i would recommend a raid enclosure with at least 3 disks so you'd be able to run raid level 5 which is redundant. so in case one disk should fail nothing is lost. also keep in mind that using raid5 will not give you the full space of all disks for the sake of redundancy. however it will also be faster than one single disk.
3!? wow, shouldn't 2 be enough? I don't know much about this subject though so you're probably right.
Are there any enclosures that fit 3 external HDD?
i am not sure hows it is where u stay....but in India (thts where i am) we get 5 yrs replaceable warranty on int hdd and only 1yr wartanty on ext. ones. so i did went for an int hdd which i later converted to ext. since i always back up my data to dvd's after a certain period and i use the ext moslty for seeding and as a temp holding place only.
raid5 only works with 3 or more.
more on that

Just remember that if you buy an ext 3.5", they don't show the charger on the picture.
So get a 2.5" if you plan to move with it.
Usually, buying hdd + case is a little more expensive than an ext hdd. I don't know why.
