    Default Programmers Unite!

So there have to be some nerds here. Tell us about yourself and your technical obsession! Also, maybe we can get the boring-sounding "Programming" group a little more full-up: http://www.torrent-invites.com/groups/programming.html

    1. Do you program professionally:

Do you program professionally: Sure do

How long have you programmed: Going on 10 years. Started writing HTML when I wasn't even a teenager. Got into web design and later full application design. Everything from Delphi (wanted to write 31337 h4x for AOL), to Ruby on Rails.

What language(s) do you program in: C# mostly, but I also dabble with SQL, perl, C, PHP, and sometimes HTML

Favorite IDE: I used to use NetBeans in school, but later moved to Eclipse. Now that I use Visual Studio, I could never go back to anything else. C# practically writes itself with the plugins out there.

Top programming achievement to date: While finishing up school I got to write a program for my employer from scratch. It was for real-time data collection and really earned the respect of my co-workers. Was a lot of fun and it is awesome to think that a program I wrote is being used all over the world now.

Discussion: Feel free to add comments about others' responses here, but try and keep the thread on track.

So who at TI has a passion for programming and why?

    Do you program professionally: Yes

How long have you programmed: About 5 years.

What language(s) do you program in: Java, PHP, Bash. I've recently done a bit of C++ with the QT framework and some Python.

Favorite IDE: Netbeans. But I've used lots, I'm not a big eclipse fan but use it at work, Kdevelop used to be what I used.

Top programming achievement to date: Making new things out of old things. Fully integrating LDAP SSO into about 20 different web applications all coded by different people. Coding from scratch is easy, coding on top of someone elses work is where the true challenge lies.

Discussion: Visual Studio... really? Incidentally I hate bash. it's so annoying. I'm seriously tempted in writing a linux bash library for php. Would make my life so much easier.

Oh so many questions. Programed periodically for last 5 years as mostly a hobby. Not a professional and haven't program match in any language. Have used vb, vb.net java, c++ and php. Php is a scripting language but very useful for website and currently trying to learn object oriented php.

    Do you program professionally: No
How long have you programmed: 5-6 years
What language(s) do you program in: PHP, Python, Ruby, RealBasic, some Perl
    Favorite IDE: RealBasic IDE/ConteXT notepad
Top programming achievement to date: Andern or Saphiire
Discussion: I was more of a code hacker than a straight programmer. When learning languages I got caught up in hacking other peoples code into doing what I want instead of following projects and writing new stuff. I still to this day am able to hack up code in the languages i dabbled in.

    Do you program professionally: Yes
How long have you programmed: Web design for about 10 years, recently getting into Ruby.
What language(s) do you program in: Ruby! Such a great language to learn. My initial reason was for Rails.
Favorite IDE: Probably netbeans or radrails, although a gedit is good for most thing.
Top programming achievement to date: None that I can really allude to without getting too personal!

So, is there still a Programming discussion group? I can't seem to find it!

    # Do you program professionally:
Not right now as I'm trying to find a job working in web developing.

    # How long have you programmed:
I've messed about web programming on-n-off for about three years.

    # What language(s) do you program in:
I've experimented a lot with ActionScript 3 and I'm currently trying to get into object-oriented programming. I can also do (lightly) PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

    # Favorite IDE:
Not a real hardcore programmer like you guys seem to be so I just use Adobe products to map out what I try to create.

    # Top programming achievement to date:
Hmm... I can't really point to anything since I'm an amateur. The most complex thing that I've built so far is a poker hand history reader, and that's not even finished yet.

    # Discussion

Any other ActionScripters out there? Oh, can anyone recommend any good books, online tutorials, or any other online resources, that would help expand my knowledge of PHP?
