I just need something that'll be able to let me cut and edit HD files such as M2TS and MP4. I've been recommended Sony Vegas in the past but for some reason that program does not want to install.

You can use Sony Vegas 9.0 Pro [I can help you get that working], Pinnacle Avid Liquid and NeroVision
Thanks for the recommendations and the offer to help.
Have your heard of iSkysoft Video Converter? I checked out the trial and it's perfect for what I need.
Can't find it anywhere though.
I think I can help you with iSkysoft Video Converter (2.2.0 version), but tomorrow, when my friends will go online...
But I also can advise you my favourite one cutie (and freeware) Xvid4PSP:
Code:Supports: PSP, PS3, ХBOX 360, iPod, iPhone, BlackBerry, Hardware DVD и PC. Cutting function is simple like: 1) set start (frame); 2) set end; 3) apply trim.
You can adjust there Brightness/Contrast, Denoise/Sharpen and, for sure, you can change included codecs settings as: encoding mode/bitrate/quantizer/amount of passes/motion/b-frames... it also includes AviSynth, so, that you can edit end script or create you own.
But. As for me, I prefer command line to work directly with encoders... and only for muxing I use GUIMaybe because I'm not doing that so often...
Code:...and I also forgot about more advanced freeware VirtualDub
