Thread: What driver?

    Hello T-I members.

I've recently been asked to restore a computer for someone in my family.

Normally I don't have a problem with this. However the computer is quite old now, it's either running windows 98 or ME.

I also have no system disks for it, NONE whatsoever. So before I format it, I'm going to need all of the necessary drivers.

What is the easiest way to go about getting them?

    hey

I use this tool: PC Wizard
It's free for use (eg. Lavalys Everest alternative). With this program you can see what type of hw your (old) computer has installed, and then you can search for proper drivers.
And abut drivers: I recommend that you search at official sites of your hw manufacturer(s), but if you can't find anything, try to use http://www.driverguide.com

    good luck!

if you can access device manager, expand all branches and take a screenshot. then go to driverguide and search for them using the screenshot as a "wish list".

If it's an older piece of hardware, you might have better luck with a Linux distribution. Everything is free and better than the stuff you get for windows. Try a liveCD. PCLinuxOS is great for beginners.
