You can build a monster machine for under 1000 at newegg. Just think of what you want to do with it first. For gaming, get a nice video card, memory, processor and power supply... Just look at the reviews of everything before you buy it.

The link you have there seems to be pretty good. The video card is getting a little bit old, so if you get the chance, pick out a new one. If you really want to save some money tho, AMD's AM3 platform is great. The new Phenom IIs are great processors and they are cheap! I'd definitely check it out if I were you.

even if the video is a little old the important thing is that the motherboard is very up to date (umm, i think) so i always have the option of upgrading in the future. thanks for the helpful comments guys. just one more thing, how long do these offers stay around. i'm usually very reluctant to act without thorough deliberation and since i've only considered this building idea in the past few days it probably won't be another couple weeks until i feel totally sure about it. so how quickly do i have to act if i see a good deal up? i guess the positive side is that since there are always good deals coming and going i probably won't have to wait too long for another one to show up.

    Total Cost = $810.48 + $30 worth of rebates.

You'll find nothing better than this beauty for under 1000.

The combo deal may no longer be available but you can just substitute since you have a budget of 1000.

the combo u chose is very nice, the graphic card plays every game on high thats released at the moment. People who suggest getting a better video card, just want fancy stuff. The person above me also has a nice combo picked out for u.

Yup, jump on it before any of the sales/rebates go away. It'll be worth it. :)

thanks for the great advice everyone. its very comforting for a beginner when there are more experienced tech people around to help. it seems like i won't be purchasing anything for another 2 weeks but at the moment i'm pretty dead set on what kind of machine i'll be getting from all the good feedback on this deal. Once i get some family stuff out of the way (yes, the relatives can be pretty demanding) i'll have some time to actually put this thing together. rest assured i will report back when i finally get some results (hopefully from the new rig!). thanks mates!
