It's kind of a bitch to set up - you have to scrap drivers together, and make sure your mother board is set up just right, etc etc. It is very cool (though not completely stable) when it does work, but it does take a lot of effort. Google a few forums/guides - they tend to be tremendously helpful.
It was honestly not worth the hassle for me. It took so long to set up, and in the end I didn't manage to set it up correctly so I gave up. It all really depends on the computer you're installing it. Some netbooks run OSX great. Others don't.
Yea thanks guys. Was hoping for somone to say "Yea its easy....... try this"! HAHA wishful thinking i guess. not to worry perhaps when i get some time i will have another go. OR i will just buy a macbook. Was looking at them but not having used one before its hard to justify the additional cost when compared to a PC laptop.
Maybe not OS X, but how about a linux distro? Run a live cd first and decide if you like it. Then partition or do a full install on an old box. This machine is 10 years old and dual boots XP or Ubuntu. It's still fun.
Maybe not super easy - but not that hard either.
Working my way toward 50 posts ONE RANT AT A TIME. I ought to get to 33% by 2011. If you take what I write seriously, Dude you got no sense of humor!
There was a lot of loud pounding on the front door and someone yelling, "ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND FIREARMS!"
Hell, I thought it was a delivery.
Yea, i tried Red hat a few years ago and some problems with drivers. I suppose its probably a bit better now.
I currently dual boot XP and Windows 7 on this laptop. Im really happy with Windows 7 so i might swap out xp for Unbuntu. How is the driver support these days?
Ubuntu and Mint both instantly worked with every device in my laptop.
As for the initial topic question: I tried the kalyway and the iatkos, I believe iatkos worked fine when I attached a usb keyboard and mouse to my laptop, but I didn't try further to get the laptop-keyboard and touchpad working.
You should all be careful when installing ubuntu via VMware though, because when I tried to install this on a virtual hard drive in the VMware file on a real external hard drive, it actually used the whole external hdd! (very strange that it could even overwrite the vmware machine files)

OS X can work very easily with te right hardware, the problem is having the hardware for it. Linux on the other hand is almost as nice, Ubuntu and G OS both work wonderfully for me.
I tried once iatkos.... waste of time, i have no patience for that.
Wow, I was really surprised at the lack of replies. Here I will try and help.
First of all, bookmark this before anything OSx86 Project | InsanelyMac

In InsanelyMac you will find tutorials on your motherboard (if it is a common one) and how to set it up. This is an awesome resource to have, it will tell you almost everything you need to know. It will also tell you what will work and what won't when you get it working.
There are different versions of each, some can install retail while others go with iatkos or Kalyway.
Second, The Wiki is a great resource for compatability as well as all around knowledge of what your working with. This takes alot of time: searching, fixing, installing, repairing. You have to really want this.
Anyways, I love my OSX on my PC. Works perfectly.
