Thread: Need help with image hosting

I have never had to use image hosting before, but some of my newly obtained trackers are telling me that I need to give a URL to my avatar. I usually just upload avatars from my HDD. I also don't know how to attach images into my signature.
Here are a few questions....

How to I get a URL for my avatar?



How do I make ratio proofs for forums?

When showing proofs of ratios, what information should I hide?

How do I make thumbnails in forums?

Which image hoster shall I use?

If anyone could answer these questions, it would be appreciated.:001_smile:

go to photobucket, create acc and than just upload any picture u want. after u upload picture there r links for that picture, lets say direct link is for forums and so but there r other links like for sites and so. so after u upload only thinng u need to do is provide link of ur avatar and that's it. u can use same for thumbnails and everything. not that hard

1. When you upload an image to an image host you have different boxes with links in it. Mostly the lowest/most hidden one is the direct link to the image. They don't like to show that one since they can't place adds with it. =)

2&3. Put your name/text about the trade in the address bar or any other place where it's visible. Also make your ratio visible. Press print screen, go to paint or another simply image editing software, paste it in there.
Take a brush and hide: Your username, all but 1digit of your ratio, upload, download & bonus if any.

3. Some image host already provide a thumbnail of your image, otherwise scale your image down. (different ways to do that.) And use that small image in side a url tag. ( [ url=http://this.somethings.com][ img]http://img.host.com/image.png[ /img][ /url] ) This only won't work here since we have a pop-up script that is activated on click so you can't go to the full sized image. They are automatically downsized though. Works on most other forums.

4. I personally use Imageshack.us, find Photobucket bandwith running out a bit fast. =) Imageshack is a bit slow with uploading though. Sometimes uploading there doesn't seem to work. Than I just pick another random hit from google. =)
Images I see from photobucket also tend to load very slowly. I don't like it. =) Pick whatever you want. ^^

Here are a few image hosting sites you might like to look at.

imageshack.us - This one is quite popular. It has a lot of nice thumbnail selections for you to use too.
photobucket.com -Very nice to use if you are going to have a lot of images and want them organized and easy to obtain.
xs.to - Quite useful for small urls.

Another good thing to know is when editing your proofs, depending on how much the site cares, I would edit out some letters in the header and maybe the url.

For example if it's SceneLife you are editing ratios for I would cover up the letters "eneife" so that it just says ScL because some sites can't stand to have their whole name said anywhere and it could cause you to be banned from the site if they find out.
