Default Query: Eee PC with no disc drive

    Hey there.

Am hoping someone with a bit of computer knowledge will be able to help me here. Would be much appreciated.

My daughter has an Eee PC (little notepad computer) with no disc drive which her father managed to arse up while she was at his place. Do I need to get an external disc reader to wipe it all and re-install the programs or can I do it from my desktop PC with the Eee PC disc provided when it was bought?

I don't want to put the disc from it in my hard drive in case it naffs everything up on my system.

Thank you in advance for any replies to this.

    Lass.

I would imagine the recovery disk provided with the laptop would be easy to use and would work... Can you imagine if a company provided a 'Recovery' disk with their laptop, and it broke the laptop even more?

If you want to recover the Laptop by reinstalling the programs and OS (Which is probably Windows), you will need to find all the apps on the internet. But if you want to reinstall Windows, you will have to get a Windows disk off a torrent site, and reinstall it through a external disk drive, or through the network.

That's assuming the Eee PC allows booting off a external disk drive....

To be honest, reinstalling the programs, cleaning out the registry, scanning it for malware etc. should be enough to get it running again. A OS reinstallation shouldn't be needed unless something has *really* gone wrong.

um there should be a copy of the install files on the computer itself . look for recovery mode on the screen .. usually F11 button when u boot.

Unfortunately, many laptops don't have recovery partitions, meaning this wouldn't work. But then again, I can't remember if the Eee PC has one or not.

You can pick up a usb cd drive pretty cheap these days or if you have usb drive / key you should be able to load up the recovery on there and boot from it by changing boot options in bios.
