I read somewhere that to help get the epoxy thermal compound to break off the video cards easier, you can put it in the freezer to make it more brittle... I've never disassembled one myself. Though. :-\

What the ?! Electronics can be destroyed at below 0 temperatures not to mention all the moisture in the freezer. This is one of the easiest ways of killing your (insert electronic device here).

I already explained the easiest and most effective and safe way of removing TIM.

BTW Azitox, disassembling the fan off the video card is even easier then from the CPU, it's a smaller fan held by tiny bolts.

This thread is starting to turn into grandma recipes for the common cold...

What is moisture going to do to electronics that don't have an electric current going through them? And No one said you had to get it below 0 degrees...

PS my grandma recipe for the common cold: alcohol! If it's good enough to kill germs in open wounds, it's good enough to kill them in your blood!!

The bolts that hold the cooler break under pressure, plus the GPU crystal is not protected and a simple scratch can destroy it.
I don't recommend changing the GPU's thermal compound by not experienced people.

Freezer is at below 0 temps, Celsius.
    0 degrees Celsius = 32 degrees Fahrenheit

And the moisture can rust the device and even a small amount of minerals placed by the moisture on the circuits can short-circuit the device.

Cold itself is not bad. Some CPUs can work at -200C. Moisture is bad.

Well you don't have to leave it in there for a week. Just gotta get it chilly. Anyways, I guess I better leave my cell phone at home this winter, it might get below freezing!

be carful when you whant to put the cpu on the mother bord dont bend the pins and know that the cpu well fit perfect on the mother bord only on one side

and instaling the heatsink is abid defcalt just be carfull and its better to have an extra hand helping you hold the heatsink still and secro it to the mobord like secroing a car tire dont prees 2 hard you migth brake the mobord and when you whant to put thermal past on cpu dont put allot a litel dot helps like a 1 pice of rice

There are lots of great tips here, but this job isn't really that hard (perhaps just scary if you haven't done it before). Just follow the instructions that come with the CPU/mobo/heatsink and you will be fine. The hardest part is probably spreading the goo. I just wrap some plastic wrap around my finger and spread it carefully until I get a good even coat.
