    Default ATI Graphic Cards

I have a HP 3143se with 5650 ATI graphic card. Everything was fine until it was updated by windows update. After the update, I started to get black screens before i launch a game( COD). I had to find stock drivers for the same. I tried reinstalling the drivers and disabled windows update this time. Everything was fine until yesterday when the same happened again without any update this time. ATI is really messed up. Nothing close NVIDIA cards.

Anybody here has similar problems with ATI?
Anybody here who resolved these troubles?

    Please feel free to post.

    Regards,
    Vicar

I'm running hd 5750 sapphire vapor-x with latest drivers and updates.
No problems on COD or Skyrim, or any previous game. Runs chilly, smoothly and silently.

Do you have the same problem on other games also ?
    What about 1080p videos ?

    Edit:
I just noticed you're using a laptop, they tend to heat up and as a result malfunction.
It's most likely HP's fault and not ATI.

It happens only during Cod MW2 multiplayer and battlefield 3 (audio lag). But Cod MW3 single player worked very smooth and so did other games like NFS RUN etc. 1080p video are properly defined. No problems with movies.

And yes, laptop heats up like an oven!! Do they really result in malfunction? Arent these laptop gaming laptops mostly designed to sustain or work under that heat?. I have a cooling pad too.

My friend with a similar laptop and graphic card faces similar problems. And ATI doesn't have any stock drivers setup in their sites. :(

I think you stumbled on a bug on COD, I guess the game is updated so you might want to head over to the official COD forums and try to get some help there, maybe it's a known bug.

Well I've seen laptops (of friends) malfunction until they couldn't work with them anymore, that's why I don't buy one.
I doubt those gaming laptops last long either.

This is what I use to cool my cpu: Noctua.at Imageviewer
It weighs about 1 kg (2.2 pound).
Your laptop's cpu is essentially the same as my i5 and it can reach the same temperatures as mine, but you don't see a big chunk of copper on it to cool it down.
The laptop cooling system isn't very effective so the heat builds up, in the long run, this is reducing the life of the components.

Edit: I doubt it will help but you could find old drivers here: Old Version of ATI Catalyst Drivers Download - OldApps.com
    or here: download from Guru3D.com

Thank you for the insight LibChamp. The cooler is BIG. lol . Let me check if they have any ATI mods for the game. Heat issue can't be resolved for laptops i think. Either ways i advise people to go for NVIDIA if they want gaming. They have a great site and database. Your can easily dig up stock drivers and tools and they post good fixes.

hi vicar, honestly i think desktops are much better than laptops for gaming :P it is hard to pin point the cause of your problem, but trying to google your problem
and see if you can find others with similar issues, i agree it could be a bug in the game and yes heat can cause allot of problems, it may also be ram! in the way
that there is not enough ram for online gaming?
maybe a laptop cooler may be a good idea to try and keep temps down!

This is my laptop. : HP Pavilion dv6-3143se Entertainment Notebook PC Product Specifications - c02514116 - HP Business Support Center

Its got 4 GB DDR3 (1 x 4096 MB). I bet that must be sufficient. When I googled, i found that there are others complaining similar problems. Everybody is reinstalling the stock drivers with fingers crossed. Its not permanent though. I am going to do the same thing.Hopefully, it will turn alright.

    Thanks for the input 'graphic'.

I would have avoided the ATI graphics in my HP laptop if possible... but my DV7-2140ev was an amazing deal two years back ..
I have seen problems with graphics as well... what I have found out to solve all issues is: download latest windows without updates etc...
Disable all updates and run graphic drivers... also check your directx installation...

waiting yours ... and will revert... :)

There is no ATI anymore. It's AMD.
I'm currently with a HD6870 and I'm very happy with it. I was happy with the previous HD5770, and the HD4850 before that.
