Thread: Keyboard and mouse made from glass

The gadget enthusiasts under us probably already know it, but since no one else posted anything on this forum yet i thought i would do the honours.



An American inventor named Jason Giddings has posted a project on kickstarter where explains that by using some sophisticated method using lasers it is possible to make a keyboard using nothing but glass. For a donation of a couple of hundreds of dollars he will send you one glass keyboard and mouse.

This certainly seems like a gadget you would like to have in house, its slick and futuristic. But at the same time i do see some problems. With nothing to press in it will be a lot more easier to make mistakes. Also your type ratio will go down significantly. But on the other hand people have been doing this for years on their smartphone, so maybe it wont be so bad. Also this keyboard will be a lot easier to clean since you only need to wipe it once with some cloth.

What do you guys think? Is this a new gadget that a few years from now is in every electronic webshop available or will it die a slow death with only a handful produced and sold?

Wow, i think this gentlemen is on to a winning idea, in areas where extreme dust and dirt management has to be kept i can see this replacing a lot of stock keyboards and mice. Especially in the medical industry.

Now that is actually very futuristic and elegant. I'm not sure about the practicality of it though.. Even so, I like it!

its all looks, what if im playing some high action online game, and got frustrated and without thingking threw the mouse, *glass breaks* but great way to make a mouse and a keyboard sophisticated

This keyboard is definitely not meant for playing games. Can you imagine playing an fps on this? But still for the non-pc gamers under us i think it will look very cool. If i had the money for it i would buy one right now.

the weird thing is that they don't mention price :P

They do mention the price. It clearly states that if you donate $350 you get a a production wireless multi-touch keyboard and mouse. But these prices are when production has not even started yet. Maybe the prices will go down when it becomes cheaper to produce these keyboards.

With the right marketing he could sell thousands of these keyboards to places where sanitation is top-priority.
