    Default Upgrade computer

    Good morning,
So I've got this computer since 18/01/2011 but I'm thinking about upgrading it.
    Here are the specs:
    • MB ASUS SABERTOOTH X58 LGA 1366 DDR3 ATX
    • CPU INTEL QUADCORE I7-950 3.1GHz
    • VGA ATI RADEON ASUS EAH6850
    • DDR III CORSAIR 1X4GB 1333MHz C9
    • POWER SUPPLY ATX 600W XILENCE BIGFAN 13.5CM
I mostly use my computer to game so I want something that will keep up for long enough.
I heard about these new Sandy Bridge processors and that they are extremely good; do you agree with that? Should I get one?

My budget is not really limited, so just throw it in, and with a bit of explanation if possible, and a webshop link is preferred (available in Belgium).
I don't mind if you start discussing about "this one is better than that one" but don't forget there are already existing threads about that. ;)

Pastebin of the dxdiag, if that is of any use: http://pastebin.com/eKXHA662

If you're looking to upgrade that system, you may be limited.

Your motherboard is not Sandy Bridge compatible. That would require a new motherboard. You could go with a Intel Core i7-980.

Graphic card could be swapped out with an ASUS EAH6970 is you want to keep it in the same family.

More memory can help, you can go to 24GB and you only have 4GB, to me for gaming nothing less than 8GB is acceptable.

You also don't mention what hard drive you are using, a good SSD can help a lot too.

You have a good machine, personally I would bump the memory up to 8 or 16GB and have a 7,200RPM+ HDD or a SSD/hybrid drive.

If you were to go Sandy Bridge (Ivy Bridge is next) I would suggest:
Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge 3.5GHz
    ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3

Hmm, are you sure SB isn't compatible with it? Heard this motherboard is "high-end" and that you can add anything on it.
So asked advice on my every-day gamer-website and a guy advised me this:
    • - XFX ProSeries 750W XXX Edition
    • - Crucial m4 CT128M4SSD2 128GB
    • - Corsair Vengeance CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB Triple Channel Kit DDR3-kit
    • - Sapphire HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
Is it any good? Is it sure to work with the stuff I already got?
    Got a HDD 1TB SATAII 312MB btw

hi Crossfire1993, hmm nice specs m8, you have allot of options and it is a good idea to do some homework before you start throwing money around:P
eg the new lga 2011 should be released in the new year (1366) which new motherboard pic's are allready spreading around the net!
    some forums like,
    XtremeSystems Forums
Uncomplicating the Complicated | Hardware Secrets
and a few more that can't really come to mind at the minute.
compatibility is most important plus try to see what other user's configurations are.
but looking at you specs perhaps anoth graphic's card like mabye crossfire since you have a ati card? which will only run as fast as you allready have!
which might mean a bigger power supply? plus maybe more ram! and of course torrenting more hd space :P
giving advice is allways a little difficult so i hope i have helped someway?
just googling your questions with forums or reviews is great way to start
    good luck:L)

Sandy Bridge CPUs are LGA 1155 and require a north bridge that supports it. The board is high-end, it just doesn't work with Sandy Bridge.

Stuff is good, but if you are replacing the graphics card why not get a 6970 rather than replace a 6850 with another 6850?

The memory is going to make a huge difference, 4GB to 12GB is major and you'll wish you did it before. Nothing less than 8GB is my rule.

Also, if your games support multi core processors, the i7-980 I recommended will give you two more cores.

Personally, I'd get the memory and the crucial SSD for now and wait for Ivy Bridge to come out. You have a really nice system, not the best - but it is more than enough for any game that is out there or will be for awhile.

I also agree with Graphic, going crossfire would also help.
