Default Hard Drive prices just shot up like a rocket!

I went to go pickup some 2TB hard drives tonight that I usually spend $74US for and they are now $140. Went to a few different stores and checked online, all the same if not higher. The floods in Thailand have disrupted Worldwide supplies possibly through the first quarter of 2012.

Are you seeing price increases like this in your area?

The price increase is shocking at my usual go to online store newegg.com. Prices have more than doubled in 1 day.

I'm glad I did all my upgrades a few months ago. Maybe I can recycle some old smaller drives for cash.

Wow, I was checking out prices today after running around to Best Buy and picking up four 2TB Western Digital Drives for $109 (boxed version) and see that CompUSA where I use to buy the drives in bare packing for $74.99 now has them up to $249.99 (They were $149.99 on Friday, 3 days ago).

They are really taking advantage of the situation early on, I am sure if this shortage continues as long as estimated that they will raise the prices even more and sell them as they will be hard to find soon.

As much as I hate Best Buy, they seem to be the only ones not jumping on the bandwagon, It could be possible they don't know what is happening.

yeah, I picked up a 2TB internal HDD last weekend for $179AUD (SATAIII, 7200rpm). It was the last one in stock so I bought it immediately when I was told by the shop owner there would be a surge in prices and availability of new stock was unknown....I'm glad I did.

My local in Oz has basically doubled prices in the last couple of weeks. AUD$79 for a 2TB WD Green now up to AUD$140.

Glad I bought my 4 before they spiked.

The external HDD's are the best way to go for the price if you need it right now! Oh and you could always take them out of there case and install them internally if you wanted too!

Crapola. I just checked and some of the online stores have doubled even tripled the prices. But then some other ones haven't really shifted prices...yet
