    MKV is a great format and just like Regex22 said:

    Your PS3s and XBOXes are the problem since they don't support this beautiful format ;)

    Exactly, you can't knock the container because your hardware/software can't play it. MKV is an open standard free container format and is entirely open in specification, with implementations consisting mostly of open source software (wiki). Unlike other containers like avi, mp4, flv, rm, etc., MKV is flexible, isn't limited to any codec, and holds anything audio & video. There's a reason this wrapper is superior to the rest and why it's used widely in HD encoding. Simply the best, I'm really sorry you can't enjoy it.

    For PS3 you should use ps3 media server to stream your mkv's from your pc to ps3. Works great and you get to keep the quality and DTS audio. Also if your converting the mkv's.... best tool would be mkv2vob

    I honestly love MKV's....now, some people seem to encode them poorly, and super large files give my comp the shits, but as far as the container itelf, its awesome!!
