The new operating system for Mac just got released a couple of hours ago (a lot of people have probably already tested the master edition) and I would like to hear your opinions about 'the world's most advanced desktop operating sytem'(quote from Apples homepage).
I was looking forward for the final version because I currently don't have a paid developer license and a pirating a pre-version is something I don't feel comfortable with doing. I upgraded from Snow Leopard, had Chess, ichat, Facetime (if it was already installed) uninstalled and I have also moved some pre-installed applications in a specific folder. The installation of Lion destroyed this, but it's nothing surprising.
Launchpad:
I have my applications grouped in nice folders and have them ready in my dock, the reason why the new launchpad is more a negative than a postive feature for me. It just shows all of your apps in one places, what a mess. (I don't like this because I have a lot of folders in applications, each for another category, with different access levels.)
Mission control/Dashboard:
is nice, but I don't think it's any better than spaces, but on the other hand I like the new dashboard. It behaves like a new space (preferences).
Finder:
What I really like is the new finder, because of the way you can view your files. It still doesn't have tabs though, like in Firefox, but I have TotalFinder for that. (amazing application btw)
ICal:
It got a totally new look, at least for viewing specific days, which I really like. Especially in iCal comes the fullscreen feature handy (even with a 17" display). Ical is probably the only application where I will use the full screen mode, because I have a pretty tight schedule.
Mail:
They changed the view in Mail a little bit that the message you are currently vewing is right next to your overview and on the left it displays your mailboxes, as usual.
Overall:
I liked the overall style of Snow Leopard better, because this one looks more outdated(I don't know why, it just does in my opinion.)
What I really hate is that scrolling goes in the opposite direction now and it feels very unnatural. I am a little bit dissappointed because I have expected more new features and it was basically just a design update. I really like the new ical and the finder, though.
I would like to hear your opinions about this topic.
P.S: I hate spam.
